Careers at Spurts
Spurts is a daily sports skill game and community. Every day, fans pick their sport and era, play their five, and prove what they know — earning their spot on one live board and a real read on their Spurts IQ. Around the game sits the Wire, our editorial layer, and Front Office leagues, where fans compete as the ones worth drafting.
We're a small, senior team building something fans reach for every morning. We're headquartered in Kansas City and remote-first, hiring across the country. If turning what people know about sports into a habit they love sounds like your kind of problem, we'd like to meet you.
Director of Marketing
Kansas City, MO / Remote (US) · Full-time
You own how the world meets Spurts. From the first hook a fan sees on TikTok to the moment they play their first daily sheet, you set the story, the channels, and the standard. You’ll build the brand voice into a repeatable engine — turning each day’s puzzles into social content, shaping the launch narrative for new sports and modes, and making “Prove it or pipe down.” land everywhere sports fans already are.
Day to day you’ll lead a small, senior team across social, lifecycle, and paid; own the acquisition funnel from impression to first-week retention; and partner with Editorial on the Wire and with Product on how VIP is framed. We’re looking for a marketer who has taken a consumer product from niche to known — someone fluent in both brand and performance, comfortable in the numbers, and genuinely native to sports culture.
Marketing Strategist
Remote (US) · Full-time
You turn a daily sports game into a daily content habit. Working from the puzzles our players see every morning, you’ll plan campaigns across X, TikTok, Reels, and email — deciding what to post, when, and to whom — and translate the results into a clear read on which channels are working and which to cut.
This role sits at the intersection of creative and analytics: you’ll draft the calendar, brief the social team, and own the KPI dashboard that tells us whether a hook actually moved D1 and D7 retention. We’re looking for someone who can hold a strategy and a spreadsheet in the same hand — sharp on positioning, ruthless about what the data says, and quick to double down on what earns attention.
Director of Growth & Innovation
Remote (US) · Full-time
You find the next order of magnitude. This role owns the experiments that compound — referral loops, onboarding funnels, new-market and new-sport launches, and the partnerships that put Spurts in front of fans at scale. You’ll run a disciplined test-and-learn program: form the hypothesis, ship the experiment, read the retention curve, keep what works.
You’ll partner closely with Product and Engineering to instrument growth into the product itself — the share moment after a great sheet, the invite into a Front Office league, the reason a lapsed player comes back. We’re looking for a growth leader who has scaled a consumer app responsibly, respects the line between engagement and manipulation, and can tell the difference between a vanity spike and a durable habit.
Chief Technology Officer
Kansas City, MO / Remote (US) · Full-time
You own the platform that serves a fresh set of puzzles to every player, every day, and grades them live. As CTO you’ll set the technical vision and lead the engineering team building the daily-puzzle engine, the SPURTS Grade scoring system, the live Spurtsboard, and the Front Office league infrastructure — all on a stack that has to stay fast, correct, and available at the moment fans expect their sheet.
This is a hands-on leadership role at an early-stage company: you’ll shape architecture and hiring in equal measure, own reliability and security for a product that touches real players and real prize eligibility, and keep the codebase healthy while the surface area grows. We’re looking for an engineering leader who has scaled a consumer platform, cares about craft and correctness, and can move fast without breaking the things fans count on.
Director of Editorial
Remote (US) · Full-time
You run the voice of Spurts. That means two jobs held to one standard: the daily puzzles that have to be accurate, sharp, and fun by design, and the Wire — our editorial layer of takes, recaps, and stories that give the numbers a pulse. Every fact goes out verified against a hard source; every line sounds like it came from someone who actually watches the games.
You’ll lead a team of puzzle authors and writers, own the content calendar across all sports and eras, and set the editorial bar that keeps quality high at volume. We’re looking for an editor who lives in sports, has run a content operation with real cadence, and understands that in this product the joke lives in the wrapper and the truth lives in the fact — never the other way around.
Director of Experience
Kansas City, MO / Remote (US) · Full-time
You own the feel of playing Spurts. From the first-run onboarding to the ten-minute daily loop to the weekly climb up the Spurtsboard, you make sure every screen does one job well and every player knows what to do next. You’ll shape how the SPURTS Grade is revealed, how a Front Office league draft feels in the hand, and how VIP is offered without ever getting in the way of the game.
Working across design, engineering, and editorial, you’ll turn a pile of great mechanics into one coherent journey — cutting friction, pacing what a player sees and when, and holding the line on simplicity as the product grows. We’re looking for a product leader with a strong point of view on consumer UX, a track record shipping habit-forming (not dark-pattern) experiences, and the taste to know when a screen is trying to do too much.
Chief Financial Officer
Kansas City, MO / Remote (US) · Full-time
You build the financial backbone of a growing consumer business. As CFO you’ll own planning, modeling, and reporting across our revenue lines — VIP subscriptions, advertising, and sponsorships — and give the leadership team a clear, honest read on unit economics, runway, and the cost of growth. You’ll also help steward the guardrails that keep our free daily prize draw and prize eligibility clean and compliant.
This is a builder’s finance seat: you’ll stand up the systems, controls, and forecasting that let us scale responsibly, and partner with Growth and Product on how each new bet pays back. We’re looking for a finance leader who has operated at a consumer or subscription company, is comfortable in ambiguity, and can translate the numbers into decisions the whole team can act on.
Manager of Finance
Remote (US) · Full-time
You keep the books tight and the picture clear. In this role you’ll own the monthly close, manage billing and reconciliation across VIP subscriptions and other revenue, and build the reporting that tells us how the business is actually doing. You’ll be the person who makes sure the numbers tie out and the dashboards can be trusted.
You’ll work closely with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and the analysis behind key decisions, and with Operations on vendor and payment workflows. We’re looking for someone rigorous and detail-obsessed, comfortable owning process in a fast-moving early-stage environment, and eager to grow with the company as the finance function scales.
VP of People & Culture
Kansas City, MO / Remote (US) · Full-time
You build the team that builds Spurts. As the leader of People & Culture you’ll own hiring, onboarding, and the systems that let a distributed, remote-first company do its best work — and you’ll protect the culture that makes a small team punch above its weight. From recruiting senior talent to shaping how we grow, review, and reward, this is the seat that turns a group of people into a company.
You’ll partner with every function on org design and headcount, own compensation and benefits, and keep our practices fair, compliant, and human as we scale across states. We’re looking for a People leader who has built the function at an early-stage company, cares deeply about both performance and belonging, and can hold high standards without losing the warmth that makes people want to stay.
Customer Support Manager
Remote (US) · Full-time
You’re the human on the other end of the game. As Support Manager you’ll own the player experience after something goes sideways — a scoring question on the SPURTS Grade, a VIP billing issue, a Front Office league dispute — and make sure every fan walks away feeling heard and taken care of. You’ll build the help center, the response playbooks, and the standards that keep support fast and genuinely helpful.
You’ll also be the loudest voice for players inside the company, routing patterns you see in tickets back to Product, Engineering, and Editorial so we fix the root cause, not just the symptom. We’re looking for someone who leads a support function with empathy and rigor, writes clearly, and treats a well-handled problem as a chance to earn a fan for life.
Chief of Staff
Kansas City, MO / Remote (US) · Full-time
You’re the force multiplier for leadership. As Chief of Staff you’ll turn strategy into motion — running the operating cadence, driving the priorities that cross every team, and making sure the daily-puzzle machine and the roadmap behind it stay on schedule. When a decision needs framing, a project needs an owner, or two teams need to be pointed at the same goal, that’s you.
You’ll sit close to the founder and the leadership team, prepare the analysis behind big calls, and own the special projects that don’t fit neatly into one function. We’re looking for someone exceptionally organized and trusted, comfortable operating with ambiguity and confidentiality, who can zoom from a company-wide plan down to the detail that makes it real — and back again.
How we hire: Apply to any role above and a real person reads it. Expect a short intro call, a conversation with the hiring lead, and a practical exercise close to the actual work — no trick questions, no endless loops. Don't see your exact fit? Tell us what you'd build.
